title of the reference :  Hydrocarbon generation and migration in the Ghedames basin
Publication Date: 1995
Author : Ghenima R.
Catalogue type : Livre
Catalogue reference : Hydrocarbon generation and migration in the Ghedames basin application to the filling history of the El Borma oil field This work aims at a better understanding of hydrocarbon generation and expulsion from the two main source rocks of the Ghedames basin namely the Silurien (Wenlockien) and the Devonien (Couvinian-Strunian). After a detailed geological and geochemical study with in particular determination of the burial history and the thermal history, modelling techniques were used to discriminate the mane phases of hydrocarbon generation and migration in the basin. For the Silurian oils, hydrocarbon generation started at the Carboniferous and is still occuring now whereas for the devonian crudes, hydrocarbon generation started later (Cretacious) and is still occuring now.The main direction of secondary migration, along the Hercynian unconformity is roughly NW-SE. Concerning the El Borma oil field, a detailed geochimical study using various techniques (GC, GC-MS, d13C) conducted on a suite of oil and reservoir core extracts, revealed that the oil in place was sourced by the Devonian source-rock, although a contribution by Silurian rock cannot be completely discarded.
