Tectonic-stratigraphic history of the Southern Golf of Gabes and the hydrocarbon habits. This paper develops a regional tecteno-stratigraphic framework for the southen Gulf of Gabes. It begains with a construction of a generalized stratigraphic section summarizing five Megacycles : (1) Triassic-Lower Liassic (2) Lower-Middle Jurassic Pre-Rift sequence (3) Late Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Syn Rift sequence (4) Middle-Upper Cretaceous Post-Rift sequence (5) and finally Tertiary Megacycle. Palinspatic reconstuction of several regional geosismic lines led to determining the mine tectonic styles and phases and their impact in the hydrocarbon entrapment. In the southen Gulf of Gabes, two basic structural assemblage have been recognized 1/ Extensional fault blocks (ductible and brittle). 2/ Wrench-fault assemblages (ductible and brittle). The southen Gulf of Gabes underwent five tectonic events : (1) Lower-Mid Triassic Rifting with a NNE-SSW extension. During the late Triasic, a strong subsidense toock place in the Jeffara basin. (2) Upper Cretaceous-Lower Cretaceous NW-SE extension. (3) Upper Cretaceous wright-lateral wrenching event with is considered as the main phase for almost NE-SW trending anticlines. (4) Mio-Pliocene NE-SW extension. (5) And finaly the Post-Villafranchian NNW-SSE compression. As a resultat, the present day surface topographic anomalies are concidered as inheritance of Upper Cretaceous Tectonic phase.
