title of the reference :  The Stainforthiidae (foraminifera) in the late Paleocene and early Eocene of Tunisia
Publication Date: 1987
Author : Bou Dagher Marcelle K.
Catalogue type : Livre
Catalogue reference : (FRA) Bull. Cent. Rech. Explor. Prod. Elf-Aquitaine The Stainforthiidae (foraminifera) in the late Paleocene and early Eocene of Tunisia Stainforthiidae (foraminifère) du Paléocène et de l'Eocène inférieur de Tunisie. During late Palaeocene and early Eocene times in southern Tunisia, some peculiar benthic associations dominated by Stainforthia spp. and/or Elphidiella prima occured. These forms are typical of restricted hyposaline nearshore regressive facies and lagoonal phosphatic facies. The later were created behind lumachelle limestone formed at the edge of the platform. The foraminiferal assemblages show strong affinities with the microfauna of the Dano-Palaeocene sediments of the Hodna mountains, Algeria, as reported by Drooger (1952), with the same anomalously high abundance of Buliminids and Nanionids. Taxonomic evidence is given to show the genus Pseudovirgulina of Girgnani Cococcetta (1973)based on their new species 'P' Solignaci is not valid, because it is considered as a junior synonym of Stainforthia Hofker, 1956. The former type species is designated Stainforthia Solignaci (Grignani Cococcetta, 1973). Two new species of Stainforthia are described. bibliogr. biostratigraphie ; faune ; faune foraminifère ; taxon nouveau ; Buliminacea ; milieu benthique ; Paléocène ; Eocène inférieur ; Stainforthiidae ; formation Metlaoui ; Tunisie ; Tunisie Centrale ; Tunisie Sud Occidentale ; Tunisie Sud Orientale ; Kef El Garia ; J.
