Appearence of Archaeoglobitruncana kefiana and Archaeoglobitruncana praekefiana n. sp. determines the maastrichtian base in Tunisia. In the area of the El Kef, they are found together with the lower Maastrichtian ammonite species Pseudokossmaticeras brandti. The foraminifer association of the Globitruncana stephensoni zone overlying the radotruncana calcarata zone and underlying the Archaeglobitruncana kefiana zone contains a microfauna of Campanian character.
