Mining Conf in the Great Jamahiriya The aim of this report is to demonstrate that the explosive firing presently used in certain phosphate working quarries can be corrected. It can easily be noted that this causes problems at each stage of the working. This report proposes various possibilities for the firing which then have to be subjected to in situ trials. In this report, we will talk about various chronometric measuremaents which simply allow giving an order of importance to the observations made in site. Nevertheless, this dose not stop the operaning obtaining more reliable statistical results. In-depth reserch has allowed the elaboration of calculation methods in order to determine firing parameters, in an optimal way, depending on the mechanical characteristics of the rock to be demolished and also the customary explosive to be used i.e, the height of the working face, the grid ratio (E/V), the banquette (V)which is the key to explosive consumption and the results of the firing and the bulling which allows up to 20 economy of explosives. The optimal parameters of the firing determined by rule of thump formulas have not been respected. The firing is often badly carried out and the actual firing plane comports discrepanices compared to the theoretical firing. These discrepanices are of different types irregularities of the grid irregularities when loading the furnaces, bad quality firing, problems when loading by sacks, pulling by thin cuttings, stc. Through experimentation, other values are obtained for firing parameters. These will be compared to those used in the quarries and possible modifications will be discussed. The results obtained demonstrate that at teast half the quantity of neccessed explosives can be economized. Finally, it is on to electrical or on electrical firing methods.
