The article gives a view of the Tunisian water supply from Phoenician and Punic times via the Roman era up to modern times. Even in 1000 B.C. the Phoenicians built polders of 30,000 cbm to catch rainwater or to store spring water. These were still in operation in the French colonial times. Later on (Carthago, 27 B. C.)the Romans installed a grip of aqueducts to supply their baths. In 1859 the 90 km long aqueduct to Carthago was restored and now supplies Tunis with 17,300 cbm of water per day. But nowadays pressure pipes, storage tanks and since 1928 even the first reservoir with a concrete dam ensure the supply of Tunisia (1983: 155 millions of cbm).
