The stratotype of the marine Paleocene El Kef, Tunisia: Salaj et al.,1976: Salaj 1980 (with its stages Danian s.l., Harian = Montian s. l. and Mellegian= Landenian s.l., or Thanetian,s.l.)was studied on the base of the foraminifers. The Harian is characterized by the Globoconusa kozlowskii, Turborotalia (Acarinina)praecursoria uncinata s.l. and Morozovella pusilla, Planorotalites pseudomenardii and Morozovella velascoensis zones are placed in the Mellegian. The stratotype of the marine Paleocene El Kef, Tunisia: Salaj et al.,1976: Salaj 1980 (with its stages Danian s.l., Harian = Montian s. l. and Mellegian= Landenian s.l., or Thanetian,s.l.)was studied on the base of the foraminifers.
